Whilst looking forward to my summer holidays by the sea, planning and exercising, I started thinking more and more about the sea, pretty obvious. Recently I watched this documentary about the Pacific Ocean and it’s alarming how rapidly it changes, not necessarily to the better. Apparently the environmental conscious of people is more dedicated to the land than the sea which leads to slow decisions on marine reserves and similar protective actions. I must admit for a long while until now I hadn’t heard of greenpeace anymore for example, happily been eating shell fish and tuna, took a ferry to France; all that without second thoughts on how the waters and their life actually remain healthy.
How do the waters actually remain healthy with ferries and tourists all over them
But as I learned this must be what most people do because they are not aware of the danger the oceans are actually in.
More the better to find out on my shopping spree searching for the Mister’s board shorts that there is a great initiative between leading surf wear brands dedicated to help the sea to survive and rehabilitate.
project BLUE (www.betruetoblue.com) is a joint project by these competing brands who have developed a co-branded, limited edition product line where a part of the proceeds goes to the non-profit Surfrider Foundation. Their goal is to provide surfers and beach lovers an easy way of supporting the Surfrider Foundation and their mission. The brands involved in project BLUE are Billabong, DAKINE, Electric Visual, Famous Wax, Nixon, O’Neill and Reef. The fact that those brands forget their competition to go together the same path on a mission is great and I will be more than happy to support them because the product line is really cool. I must say I am not the board short type but they have some women’s shorts in their line up which are definitely cool for surfy girls. The brilliant thing about the shorts (Billabong) is that they are made using Eco-Supreme Suede, the fabric is comprised entirely from recycled plastic bottles! This makes me especially happy as I hate seeing all the waste floating around off shore and the poor birds sticking their heads in getting caught.
I love the storm watch tee and to complete the look add some of the shades Electric Hoy which are shipped in packaging made from recycled materials, with printing using soy based inks. Should you be a surfer and need new wax make sure you go for the Famous’ Green Label surf wax, which is petro-chemical free. Once again, bingo: shop for style and support a good cause, what more can you want…I’ll make sure to have a couple of bin bags on me next time I’m off to the beach..and help others out.
Current products, promotions and news updates are regularly posted to the project BLUE
website (www.betruetoblue.com) and through the site’s presences on various social
networks such as Social Vibe, MySpace and Facebook.
