Following the Golden Age of the 50ies an era of revolt had begun. Since at the end of the fifties a youth culture had developed their strong voice was heard throughout the sixties and great movements took place. Society shifted and people fought for their rights. Women got loose and wanted equal rights just like their husbands. The skirts got short and shorter, life must have been a roller coaster being young and gifted.

throughout the sixties great movements took place

The other thing that fascinates me about it is probably the fact that I was not yet alive during those rebelling times but grew up throughout the 80ies. The 60ies were a blank paper; it was all down to the youth culture evolving in all directions. Design was another big topic; lots of groundbreaking designs were created then (The Sixties: Decade of Design Revolution). The Eames chair was big, so was Buckminster Fuller’s nature inspired honey comb architecture whose shape was used on just about everything from bedding to wallpapers. Graphic Print, psychedelic patterns, designers went crazy; it was absolutely amazing. Right now I believe there is a time which again invites us to actually rethink the way we live; we face environmental issues and financial crisis, we should establish a greater conscious about our lives, society. Another revolution is needed. Eco-warriors (Causing a Stink: The Eco Warriors’ Handbook). Life-artists. We have to step up and deal with current problems in a thoughtful manner.

Another revolution is needed. Eco-warriors. Life-artists.

Maybe the times of demos and revolt are over but another medium can help. Creativity at all levels, media, art and of course the internet. It’s on its way and we all should do our part. All this I associate with the dress I found on fashion-conscience.com – absolutely love it and buying it will be my fork for the battle! What is your part of the new revolution? Can’t wait to hear about new ideas…

Browsing the web I stumbled across something I actually saw a few years back at uni not paying any attention then. This is now advanced and I could not believe my little tired eyes. Philips have used their know-how and developed clothing which is sensitive to the body. The colour may change – or the brightness – depending on your emotional state, the warmth of your body I believe.

socialize via these weird machines, giving us pain every day because they still are and always will be MACHINES

These people are quite amazing aren’t they? I like the fact that they acknowledge garments as an actual vital part of our lives and spend time and money to research advancements in that field. Not only they actually forecast the way society will go somehow… Well, this is my personal assumption I must admit but as we are quite “techy” anyway and preferably socialize via these weird machines, giving us pain every day because they still are and always will be MACHINES, we may be very affectionate to their idea of not having to sense the opposites mind anymore – we will just SEE it! Not only that, they also use clothes as one of the most important items of our day to day lives since Adam and Eve to support their idea in the way we may be living sooner or later and develop an aid for us. Still, I am not sure whether this will ever resolve the relationship issues we face or else but I’m pretty sure it is an achievement to be proud of. Let’s just hope that all that knowledge won’t grow out of hand..check more out at Philips
