The first line used brocate silk, going on to shirting fabric and now using recycled tie fabric which I personally find a great idea. Right, back to my fabric samples which I happily swapped for normal cotton – it’s far better for your skin not containing all the chemicals and it helps to make the world a little better helping cotton farmers and weavers to earn a living by achieveing fair prices for their hard work. The quality of the fabrics is amazing as far as you can tell from a small swatch and I absolutely love the colours which are all close to nature. This time I ordered the samples to then start off a concept based on some of the cottons. I’m hoping to dye some fabric myself using natural dyes with which my mum dyes wool for making yarn. You achieve colours unimaginable beautiful and I can’t wait seeing them in the first rays of spring sun..Since the snow seems to go at last my mind seems to be warming up a bit and I’m leaving slowly but surely the winter cocoon, getting my drive back and the urge to get going bursting of ideas I built up over the winter months.

There is some really good jersey in the samples which I could dye, maybe in a lovely grey shade..Then you have the checks which are so cute and might make a blouse? Oh and some canvas on which I could try some screen printing of patterns I have designed the other day.  I’ll keep you posted on what I’ll be doing with the fabrics!

Do you sometimes need just a little moment of seeing something beautiful to lift your spirits and change completely the mood you are in?

Personally I love muffs and can’t understand why they are not widely available anymore. What was your motivation when you started out?

I just love muffs and believe every woman needs one to keep their hands warm in. The real clever bit is that my muffs are also a bag and fit your mobile and keys, make-up or other small items in. It’s an allround must have accessory!

Was it not difficult to set up your own business?

Yes, it’s probably the hardest thing I have done so far but I’m determined. My concept won the 1st prize in the CULN Mind your own Fashion competiton which lead to a few opportunities and thet’s how it all began. I do everything myself which can be hard at times but works for me. I design the website, sort all the admin.

Where are the muff-bags produced?

Each piece is unique and handmade by myself,  you can even order your custom made version over my online store, just get in touch. If you need a bigger quantity that is no problem either, just ask. With all the “fast fashion” available I think a lot of people love the idea of unique handmade items and I that’s exactly what I do. One lady recently wanted one matching her wedding dress so she sent a fabric sample which I could use to match to.

Where do you take your inspiration from?

Anything inspires me, it could be a piece of fabric or something else I see in daily life, a colour or texture, just about anything. I only make a muff I would wear myself, I need to be 100% behind it, the one I wear today matches my coat.

So what’s next?

I’m currently in the process of developing my next line which will be bang on trend and in which I explore different materials and colours. The shape will also be different and you can wear them as a bumbag too which will be great for the festival season.

Kate has allowed me a little peek at the new prototype and all I can say is it’s going to be so cool.

And, just like a miracle with the dawn of a new decade it also dawned on me what exactly was wrong.

You had probably noticed that I never maintained my blog very regularly, twice a week at its best of times. (Let me here please apologize). I didn’t read my (google) reader that often and it was all nagging on me. I may not owe anyone an explanation but I’d still like to lay it out for you..Much of it had to do with my “blogger personality” which I am yet to identify completely but this decade I’m definitely closer to it. When I started out this blog the intent was to actually “do” something I was otherwise only thinking about doing. Something I was full up with, let it out, share it. My thoughts on fashion. But as with many things in life I went past the road sign, knowing where I wanted to go but not thinking of the way to get there. That’s just me. I tried everything to remedy this but it still happens at times, mainly when I’m all excited. So I wrote lists and made plans and concepts and diaries and gathered ideas storming my brain and that of others. Bin it. I went the other way. I read loads of blogs, loved them and became one of them, just not as good because it wasn’t me. Writers block started coming in, well if you can speak of writer’s block in someone who never wrote anything longer than a few pages – so all authours please ignore me. I was back at the start and this time I had something to review and revise, it was all a lot easier but still took a while.
Now here we are.

I know what I’m not, that’s already a good thing to start with, exclusion works in most cases.

1. a fashion journalist who finds pleasure in critcising other designers collection whether positively or not

2. a fashion consumer who enjoys sharing their outfits with everyone

3. an affiliate who earns money by reporting on current trends and bends their own view at times to do so

There is not much left then I guess. Maybe I should stop writing?

No, we are getting there..The blog is my diary, simple as that. I can’t believe I missed this important fact, most people start their blog out as a diary or similar and over time they may turn into big well known sites with a lot of traffic and potential of earning money.

You will think I should have known..I did but I didn’t know. I wrote what was in my head and what I believe in, don’t get me wrong but I thought long about as whether to publish it and edited images and stuff.

So from now I would like to broaden the topics, thoughts and rants I have a little more and spend less time on imagery but actually get on with it.

The next step is more of a long story and to keep it short and sweet, I have decided to turn more towards the ethical industry because I have long enough contemplated and long enough been half hearted. Let’s be honest – only feeling empathy can never be enough. Action is required. There we go, see how I’ll do. I can’t and won’t promise anything to anyone but I just wanted to let you know something is happening and I listen to this inner voice (and sure enough it will come out).
